Even if nothing seems wrong with your caravan or camper trailer, the parts that keep you safe on the road — wheel bearings, brakes and suspension — wear quietly in the background. By the time you notice a problem, it’s often on the side of the highway. A regular service is the easiest way to avoid that.

How often should you service your caravan?

As a general guide:

  • New vans: a first inspection at around 3,000 km, or after your first few trips. This is when new bearings, brakes and suspension settle in and need checking and adjusting.
  • After that: a comprehensive service every 10,000 km or every 12 months, whichever comes first.
  • Before a big trip: if you’re heading off for an extended run — up the coast, out west or around Australia — get it serviced before you go, not after.

Always check your manufacturer’s handbook too, as some brands set their own intervals for warranty.

Signs your van is overdue

  • Brakes that feel weak, grab or pull to one side
  • Noise or heat coming from the wheel hubs after a drive
  • Uneven tyre wear
  • Water marks or a damp smell inside — often a sign of tired roof seals
  • An awning that’s stiff, sagging or hard to wind out
  • Lights or electric brakes that don’t work every time you hitch up

What’s included in a service?

We offer two levels of service for single and dual axle vans:

First Inspection / 3,000 km Service — a 14-point check covering wheel bearings, wheel nut tension, tyres, suspension, brakes and park brake, undercarriage, lights, roof seals and water ingress, grease points, fire extinguisher, awning, breakaway system and trailer/Anderson plugs.

Comprehensive Service — everything above, plus hubs removed, cleaned, inspected and repainted; bearings and seals inspected; brake pads and magnets checked; brakes adjusted and electric brakes tested; wheels torqued to spec; tyre age check; stabiliser legs checked and lubricated; and hot water anode checked (if fitted).
