Just bought a new caravan or camper trailer? Congratulations! One of the most important things you can do in the first few months is book its first service at around 3,000 km — or after your first few trips, whichever comes first.
Why a new van needs a first service
New components need time to settle. In the first few thousand kilometres, wheel bearings bed in, brake shoes wear in, suspension bushes settle, and wheel nuts can loosen as everything beds down. Small adjustments at this stage keep your van safe and help prevent bigger problems later.
Many manufacturers also require a first service to keep your warranty valid — check your handbook.
What’s included
Our First Inspection / 3,000 km Service is a 14-point check:
- Wheel bearings checked and adjusted
- Wheel nut tension checked
- Tyre pressures and wear pattern
- Suspension and bushes inspected
- Park brake and cable checked and adjusted
- Brake system check
- Undercarriage inspection
- All exterior lights tested
- Roof seals and internal check for water ingress
- Shackles and coupling greased
- Fire extinguisher fitted
- Awning operation check
- Breakaway system and override battery tested
- Trailer plug and Anderson plug checked for damage
